OK, the subject for this week's Watermarks Online might be a little sensitive, so I'll apologize right now: To those who might take offense, I am truly sorry if I hurt your feelings...
The atrocious and deplorable actions of a small collection of wayward
Catholic priests does not substantiate the overestimation that
Catholicism, as a functioning and organized theology, is broken. The
Catholic Church has weathered storms far worse than the recent exposure
of these persons (and the damage they dealt) during its long history
and is sure to survive more in the future. In fact, I'm pretty sure
that as long as humans need the comfort of hope in times of tribulation
and faith in something permanent while facing uncertainty, religion
will always have a place...
