Sea Tow Foundation for Boating Safety & Education to present Safe Boating Award at C-PORT Annual Meeting
Established in 2007, it is the mission of the Sea Tow Foundation for Boating Safety and Education to promote safe boating practices that directly reduce accidents, fatalities and property damage related to recreational boating. As such, the Foundation will present an annual Sea Tow Foundation Safe Boating award to a C-PORT member in recognition of his or her exceptional efforts in preserving lives or presenting boating safety education to commercial or recreational boaters. The award will be presented annually to a C-PORT member for his or her commitment to the field of accident prevention and boating safety education. It is designed to recognize individuals or teams for their commitment to, and involvement in, making boaters safer from preventable accidents and injuries. The winner of the Award will be presented with a plaque and $500 check intended to further support boating safety programs in the winner's community.
Criteria for this award includes: • Rescue involving a life-threatening situation • Innovative ways of presenting accident prevention and boating safety education to the public • Overall program content • The program's impact on the public and its success • Duration of the program
These criteria are not intended to be all-inclusive. Other factors may be considered if the committee feels they meet the intent of this award. Nominations can be made by: a member of C-PORT or other boating industry professional/organization (a marine trades association, for example), a maritime government official, or member of the boating public. Self-nominations are permitted. Nominations are due by close of business on Dec. 1 (or by COB on the following Monday, should Dec. 1 fall on a weekend). Nominations must be submitted to Michelle Zaloom, executive director of the Sea Tow Foundation, at mzaloom@boatingsafety.com, via fax to (631) 765-5801, or by mail to the Sea Tow Foundation for Boating Safety & Education, PO Box 1325, Southold, NY 11971. The Sea Tow Foundation's board of directors will choose a winner after considering all valid entries and the award will be presented at the C-PORT Annual Meeting in January 2010. Minimum requirements for nomination: All efforts highlighted in the nomination must have been made between Dec. 1, 2008 and Nov. 30, 2009. While it is anticipated that this award will be presented annually, the Sea Tow Foundation's board of directors may decide to not make an award in a given year should nominations not merit the distinction.
